The Carnival Is Upon Us!

The carnival opens tonight at 6 PM. We saw the carnival while it was setting up this morning and it looks like it is going to be so much fun!

Currently all the rides are being inspected by the state and local authorities to ensure their safety. Once the inspections are finished, it will be good to go!

Rides include a Ferris Wheel, the Scrambler, Super Loop, and many more. Tickets are a dollar each and each ride takes two or more tickets. Tickets also can be purchased 12 for $10 or 24 for $20 with one free ride.

See you all at the carnival!

Wow , what a weekend ! Let me first say that this was my 3rd year to have experienced The Old Timers Festival. What started off to have been a great morning of heading to the parade ended in somewhat of a disappointment with overhearing a disagreement about where The Shriners were to have been in the parade line up and ended with them leaving without participating in the parade . Do some people not realise what wonderful work The Shrines provide to our community ? I say , let them be where they want in the line up however I’m merely a member of the community.

Next, my family and I continued up the hill to the local vendors and I was very impressed ! Informative and very friendly ! Kudos , local vendors !

Next we proceeded to the rides where we all had mixed feelings. We dealt with a very rude and obnoxious balloon game operator but quickly moved onto a skeetball competition between our family members where the woman running the game couldnt have been any nicer to us had she been a part of our own family.

We had an issue where our 11yr old daughter and our family had a misunderstanding on who was going where and in turn we were separated from her and unable to locate her. Many , many thanks goes out to the La Vergne Police and Rescue and the other volunteers that helped locate her quickly for us !

We then returned to the rides area where disappointment set in again…. The ride operators ignored children on the rides. One fell off the carousel , screamed and cried in terror to be let off the elephants , smoked cigarettes while trying to secure children on said rides and others let children ride for excessive lengths of time while they flirted with members of the opposite sex. At approximately 4:00pm on Saturday my children were turned away from several rides because they were told their wristbands that were supposed to be good until 5:00pm were no longer valid . Why ?

In closing , id like to say that I look foward to the next festival but only because I believe in supporting our local community and only hope that the standards ove the rides and some of their vendors are raised.
