The 2011 Old Timers Festival Parade is shaping up to be one of the most beautiful we’ve had. The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17th (line-up at 9:00 a.m. for participants). We have encouraged our participating organizations and businesses to build floats this year – and they have really come through! We have almost a DOZEN floats entered, including one for our pageant runners-up!
Float entries include LaVergne Baseball & Softball Organization, SRFC 03 Rapids, F.O.P. Lodge 85 Youth Boxing / Club Knockout, La Vergne Middle School Cheerleaders, Life Church, Chez Lama (who is also one of our food vendors), Robert Carroll of Bob Parks Realty, Inferno Baseball Local Travel Team, Days Journey Respite Care, and LaVergne P.A.L.
We will also have the Shriners again and the Greyhound Pets of America rescue group. Elected officials from the city and around the county will be a part of the parade, as well as antique cars, our new Miss LaVergne Ashleigh Alford, Junior Miss LaVergne Jessica Pickle, Young Miss Maddie Smith, Young Mister Sammy Puleo, and Little Miss Natalia Jobe.
FYI we have asked that candy NOT be thrown as directed by the city’s liability insurance policy. Instead parade participants are invited to hand out candy along the parade route. Also note the parade route will not end on Floyd Mayfield Drive as in the past… instead it will stop on Lillian Buchanan Drive next to the Post Office.
